What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is an innovative orthodontic treatment that uses a series of clear, BPA-free plastic aligners to guide your teeth into the correct position. Invisalign is popular with adults who want to improve their smiles because the aligners are nearly invisible while being worn, unlike traditional braces. You can also remove your aligners for brief periods of time to eat and clean your teeth.
How does Invisalign work?
Dr. Kim begins Invisalign treatment by taking detailed pictures and molds of your teeth. These are used to create a plan or a map for the movements that need to correct the placement and alignment of your teeth. The molds, images, and map are sent to a lab where your aligners are custom-made to fit your mouth and to gently guide your teeth to the correct positions.
You wear each set of aligners for two weeks. You will initially meet with Dr. Kim for every aligner exchange so that he can check that your teeth are moving correctly. However, after the first few exchanges, you will take a couple sets of aligners home with you, and you will only need to meet with Dr. Kim once every 4-8 weeks, depending on your specific needs.
Once your teeth have been corrected, you will have to wear an Invisalign aligner all the time for approximately six months, and then only while you are sleeping.
How long does Invisalign treatment take?
The average Invisalign treatment can last between 12-18 months, although some patients may need longer treatments. Dr. Kim works with each individual patient to create a custom treatment plan to address their specific needs. You will receive customized care and personal attention from Dr. Kim throughout your Invisalign treatment. He will provide you with information about your specific treatment after your initial consultation.
How do I take care of my teeth while I have Invisalign treatment?
It’s really easy to take care of your teeth during your Invisalign treatment. First, you take your aligners out to eat. Then you brush and floss your teeth when you’re done eating. Finally, you put your aligners back in. You’ll need to carry a toothbrush and toothpaste with you to clean your teeth when you’re not at home, but otherwise, you’ll clean your teeth just like normal.
